CHAPTER 8 : CADIZ, ICE SCULPTURE & THE DECK GIG - 19 - 22 JULY

Cadiz is a stunning city and Port. Very clean with impressive buildings and an amazing beach too. Lyn and I went on separate trips - Stuart to visit a typical Andalusian Village and Lyn enjoy Cadiz and some Flamenco Dancing.

The area around Cadiz is famous also for producing sherry and for the breeding of horses and bulls for the bull fights. There is a strong Muslim/Arab heritage also with lots of white washed villages. The Ones I visited were so picturesque and there was a photo opportunity around every corner.

Lyn loved the Flamenco dancing and after being plied with several glasses of the local brew, Muscatel, was definitely up for doing some herself - with her newly bought Spanish Lace Fan. Oh yes, she also fell in love with one of the dancers!

After the 3 hour trips we returned to the Ship for a late lunch and it was quite sad to hear the Commodore announce that we were setting sail that evening for Southampton. We have no idea where the last 2 weeks have gone.

The ship is amazing and there are so many people with different skills on board. Today we got to meet Victor - the Ice Sculpture. Every day he carves amazing creations out of ice and he did a demonstration on deck today - creating a dragon out of a block of ice. He has been honing this skill since he was aged 6 and has won awards all over the world and worked in some amazing top hotels. He also carves fruit too - particularly water melons. Very impressive!

His works of art are displayed in the restuarants every day and tie in with the menu theme of the day or where we are visiting. Right - Stuart admires the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

After several nights of performing in the Atrium, we were very excited to read the band sheet on the eve of 22ndJuly and to discover we had a whole hour set to play on the Lido Deck - deck 12.

For the first time we would be playing outside on the Deck Stage, in front of the swimming pools and bars. Freedom to pump up the volume a bit more than usual and to actually perform without the restrictions we normally have in the Atrium, where we have to keep the noise to e certain level so that the reception staff can deal with their customers.

We had some help moving our equipment and were set up in good time for our 12.45pm set. Although we didn't plan out our set, we had an idea of what we wanted to include and managed to get most of the songs in - including 3 songs from our Mini Madness Tribute. As you can see from the photos, we had an amazing time.
